Christmas in Bolzano and the surrounding area

Advent in South Tyrol is truly a magical time - something Trude Unterhofer always cherished. Let yourself be enchanted by an unforgettable winter on the Renon plateau.

How I love this Advent season in South Tyrol ...
Candles, lanterns and fairy lights compete with the glow of the Rosengarten. This is when the festive atmosphere of the original South Tyrolean Christmas markets reaches its peak - and should never be missed!
Beautiful nativity scenes carved by master craftsmen, sparkling glass ornaments with delicate details, and the comforting taste of warm apple strudel accompanied by familiar Christmas melodies: at the traditional South Tyrolean Christmas markets in Bolzano, Merano, Brunico, Vipiteno and Bressanone, a truly festive and romantic atmosphere awaits you!
Yours, Trude Unterhofer

The Christbahnl on the Renon plateau

When people slow down, reflect and soft snow gently falls from the sky, it is time for the Rittner Christbahnl - a special Christmas market in Soprabolzano. From the little Renon railway carriages, the scent of gingerbread and mulled wine, traditional soups and regional products fills the air. A peaceful market, away from the bustle of larger Christmas markets.

Look forward to local specialities, traditional high-quality crafts, an entertaining children’s programme, a living nativity scene and a nativity exhibition in the shop windows.

The traditional St Nicholas celebration, Advent concerts by the choir and brass band, as well as an exhibition of historic railway vehicles at Soprabolzano station and the Renon model railway in the old station, ensure a varied and memorable experience.

South Tyrolean Christmas markets

  • Christmas market in Bolzano - festive magic at the crossroads of north and south, where Central European and Mediterranean cultures meet, with sparkling lights, traditional scents and music.
  • Christmas market in Merano - enjoyment and relaxation in a town where Christmas truly feels at home.
  • Christmas market in Bressanone - art and history. The cathedral lends a unique atmosphere to the market on the main square.
  • Christmas market in Brunico - craftsmanship and tradition within the four gates of the medieval town.
  • Christmas market in Vipiteno - tradition lives on in this charming mining town set at almost 1,000 metres above sea level.
